Interruptions...
Sorry for the cancellation of November's meeting guys...real life has intruded once again to make things hectic and tiring. We'll be back in December for the 1000-pt 40k stretch of the Escalation League. Keep painting, keep playing, and get ready for the fight of your life!

Fantasy Doubles Tournament!
Fantasy Doubles Tournament An Overwhelming Success!
On Sunday, August 17th, the NCWC hosted a Fantasy Doubles Tournament, putting together some of the weirdest combinations of armies to create a plethora of interesting battles. The event showcased some of the most well-painted armies in the NCWC, and was very well received by the players involved; there is now talk of an ongoing Fantasy Doubles League, which is swift becoming a reality as you read this.
Here are some pictures taken from the day:

The Summer of War
As most of you know, the summer has been tricky, but overall it has been very good for us as well.
For the 40k end of things, we finally got the Battle of Bastion off the ground, despite numerous delays and scheduling issues. The battle was very good, and I think it represented some great displays of strategy and guile on the part of both sides (I tip my hat to the Imperials for their excellent use of squadrons, in particular that nasty Dreadnought hit). Thanks very much for making it a good game!
It has been a difficult time for Fantasy lately...I mean, how do you follow an act like the Isle of Draconia? Phah! Mr King will, no doubt, be hatching something big for the next round. Ryan is currently running the Fantasy RPG; for more details, check out the heading under the forum for the latest news.
On the RPG front, Ian has began a Dark Heresy campaign, of which I play the part of Ignatius Jones, guardsman for any job! The mystery has just begun to unravel...check it out under "Secrets and Silverfish" on the forums. This campaign is completely online, so if you are interested in joining, contact Ian directly.
Okay, the big, big news.
August is going to be a blowout for the club. Not only are we hosting a Fantasy and 40k Doubles Tournament, but we are also going to be part of a cross-promotion with the AWA Wrestling Promotion! BigJ has been working like mad, and pushing it like a trooper! Finally, they had to give up, and let him run with it. The Kinsmen of Port Dover (our very generous supporters) will be hosting the AWA event on August 24th. We will be running a snackbar and information kiosk for the club, and a portion of the proceeds from the snackbar will be coming back to us!
What this means for us...
- More money to get some new tables!
- Advertising to promote the club!
- More fundage for prizes for our tournaments!
- And whatever else we can think of to make our club even better!
If you would like to volunteer some of your time on the 24th to help run the snackbar, please contact me, the Lord Marshall, as soon as you can. This is going to be a big deal folks...let's make a good effort to match the work done by our Grand Poo-bah, the Big J.
Ok?
Ok.

Uhhh....
So yes...yesterday did not go as planned. C'est la vie (that's life, en anglais). Nevertheless, we had a great turnout on a rainy, cold, windy, and confused day. The games were fast, furious, and I really have to say that it was excellent seeing so many 40k players with armies ready to go.
For those of you who showed up ready to go for the Apocalypse Battle, I am very sorry; not enough room, and not enough time. Next month, we will continue the battle.

The Battle for Bastion -- At the Bastion Wall
Let the Battle Begin!
On May 18th, the battle for the city of Bastion will commence at the NCWC. An 8000 point Apocalypse Battle between the Imperium and its enemies will decide the fate of over 40 million souls caught in the path of the bloody ambition of Chaos. Governor Alsabor Creed has reportedly resurrected one of the greatest treasures of the Imperium to fight for the city -- an Imperial Baneblade that has not seen action since the Age of Apostasy. These are truly dire days for the citizens of Bastion...
The war has also continued in orbit, as a small Imperial fleet of Astartes Strike Cruisers converge on a contingent of Marauder-class vessels that hang above the planet. In the distance, Imperial observers have spotted the Infernal Answer -- the flag ship of the Witchlight Marauders! The Blood Angels are engaging the Chaos cruisers as the plains begin to rumble with the weight of the approaching enemy forces!

The Tau Invasion has Begun!
THE HERETICAL FORCES OF THE TAU INVADE THE NCWC!
RECENT IMPERIAL INTELLIGENCE SUGGESTS THAT THE RANKS OF THE NCWC HAVE BEEN INFILTRATED BY NONE OTHER THAN THE TAU COMMANDER IAIAN WITHERS, A VETERAN OF MANY GREAT CONFLICTS. WHILE THE NCWC WELCOMES THE COMMANDER OPENLY, IT WILL NOT LONG TOLERATE COLLABORATION WITH SUCH XENOS SCUM! AS LORD COMMANDER OF THE NCWC, I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THE FORCES OF THE IMPERIUM MOBILIZE IMMEDIATELY TO DEAL WITH THIS THREAT! SPACE WOLVES, BLOOD ANGELS, BLUE ANGELS, TO ME!
TO BE CONTINUED AT THE NEXT CLUB MEETING...

CITYFIGHT MAYHEM
At the club meeting in January, Brad will be bringing his cityfight board...get your armies ready for a slugfest as your warriors try to pound their way through ruined buildings and rubble-strewn streets in order to fulfill objectives and not get mauled by your opponents forces...you have been warned!

The New Year...
Hopefully not as gruesome as that, but I thought it was a very cool image. On with the show.
I hope everyone's ready for a good year. I've been working quite a bit, so I'm a little slow to update right now..hence the fact that I'm doing the New Year's greeting on the 9th. C'est la vie. I quite enjoyed the extra gaming that Sugar Bare provided over the holidays, and I hope that in the future we can all take the time to come out and enjoy it. As for great hobby news, I've got a couple of things to mention.
Ron's Trains has some excellent hobby kits for making terrain right now...and they're very well priced. Examples include a grassy hill with a tunnel through it, a set of varied trees with different height and colouring, and a whole bunch of other kits that could bankrupt you if you gave in and got them all (I was tempted). Ron really gets the best...check out the terrain matts (grass) as well...I built a great little table by just using one of those, some paint, and some polystyrene.
I have heard some interesting rumors from GW about possibly doing away with blister packets...I don't know if that's a good thing, because I'll really miss going in and picking up a blister, but if they start putting more in a box for less money, then that would be cool (unlikely, but hey, I can dream).
I hope that those of you who are die-hard Fantasy players will take a chance and play some 40k this year; there are some really good armies available for anyone who wants to play them. Juts ask Jeremy or I at the next meeting or e-mail us.
On that note, I would also like to ask if anyone has any ideas about any other game systems they would like to play in the new year, be they GW or not. Bear in mind that it IS possible to get a hold of the minis...
Happy New Year everyone!
Lord-Marshall
